Happy paws despite snow and slush

For Louise, dietary supplements are a natural part of her dogs’ diet. When her dog Ruth underwent surgery for patellar luxation, both her vet and physiotherapist recommended giving the body a little extra support. She now uses several different supplements at various times of year, and ahead of the wetter seasons – rain, snow, and slush – she uses, amongst other things, Humin-Pet.

“I love Humin-Pet – it’s a really great product! I give it several times a week during wetter periods to prevent fungal infections between the paw pads. Hedda is prone to moisture eczema, and it’s common for Pomeranians to have runny eyes, so I give my dogs HP a couple of times a week to help keep them in good health! A miracle product that really makes a difference!”

Louise has had a big heart for dogs since childhood and would happily knock on her neighbours’ doors to offer to take their dogs for a walk. The family’s first dog was a Samoyed, which sparked her love of spitz breeds. She adores their big personalities and today has a Pomeranian called Ruth, aged 5.5 years, and a Keeshond aged 2.5 years called Hedda. Ruth has a strong will of her own, knows what she wants, and loves being creative – both out in nature and in various dog sports. Hedda has a greater will to please, and is very attentive and curious.

Together with Ruth, she competes in rally obedience and agility. In addition to that, they have also competed in freestyle and showing, and have passed an aptitude test for game tracking. Hedda and Louise compete in game tracking and rally obedience. Training and competing is a great passion, and you can see from the dogs how much they enjoy it. Besides training, they love being out in the forest.

“Just stepping off the path and exploring, switching off and simply being. We also have the opportunity to spend time up in the mountains, which is something truly magical – we are very grateful for that.”

Louise came into contact with Raw for Paw through a classmate who suggested she apply for a work placement, which is exactly what she did. When Ruth had her operation, Louise began trying various supplements that helped with her recovery. Today Ruth is in good health, and the supplements are used as a preventative measure, especially during intensive training periods.

Which supplements do you use besides Humin-Pet?

“Ruth gets, amongst other things, Green-lipped Mussel and MSM. To help the body absorb Green-lipped Mussel more effectively, I also give Rosehip Powder. During training periods, her diet is supplemented with Collagen Hydrolysate to aid recovery. Once or twice a week she also gets Spirulina and Brewer’s Yeast to promote wellbeing from the inside out.

Hedda also gets Brewer’s Yeast and Spirulina, as well as MSM. During intensive periods she also gets Collagen, Rosehip Powder, and Mobility Guard.”
