New research: counteracting allergy problems in adult dogs
Here is one of the reasons why we at Raw for Paw believe in 100% natural products for our dogs and cats.
Normal does not have to mean natural. Even though allergies and atopy-related symptoms such as itching, eczema, rashes, and ear problems are becoming increasingly common in our dogs and can sometimes feel “normalised”, they are not natural. The causes of these issues may be something other than genetics – at least if the DogRisk research group at the University of Helsinki is to be believed. In a study following 4,022 dogs from the age of 2–4 months through to adulthood, they present findings that point to a causal link between the food a dog receives during puppyhood and the prevalence of allergy-related issues in adult dogs.
“Taken together, these findings suggest that it was the raw food that was beneficial to the dogs’ health, and that even a 20% addition of raw food produces health benefits.” – Anna Hielm-Björkman, head of the research group and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Helsinki.
